Finding Purpose In Who I Am: Created In The Image Of God

Jesus came into the world to be a divine shepherd to those whom the Godhead created in their image. Creation established the order of the physical world by forming the land, sea, sun, moon, and stars. The world was filled with an abundance of creatures in the seas, skies, and land. On the sixth day, God created man and woman, who were the highest of His creation because they were made in His image. Animals were given the breath of life but were not created eternal. Adam and Eve were created with the breath of life and endowed with an eternal spirit that will never pass away.

Death is the consequence of sin. After the fall of man, God removed Adam and Eve from the garden so they could not eat of the tree of life and live forever. The world has seldom understood death. As the world populated, the heart of man turned toward the pleasures of sin. The heart of man cared only about the here and now and tried to get as much gusto out of life as possible. There was no forethought of life after death. Sin seared the minds of men to believe only in the joys of life in the present. God destroyed the world in the days of Noah, and only eight souls were saved from the flood. God promised Abraham a seed that would bring blessing to the whole world. That Seed was Jesus Christ.

Jesus came to bring an abundant life to the misery of the world (John 10:9-10). He was the good shepherd who cared for His sheep and was willing to die for His sheep. Jesus was not a hireling who cared nothing for the flock. The life of Jesus was purposed for one goal: to bring the gospel of salvation to a lost and dying world. Sin required the death of Jesus. He willingly took the place of all men to be the intercessor between sinful man and righteous God. Through the blood of Jesus, the abundant blessings of God’s mercy are found.

The world fails when men refuse to believe they are eternal creatures. Jesus died for the world because God created eternal beings, and He desires to save all men (2 Peter 3:9). The greatest tragedy is that all men are created in the image of God, and most men refuse to believe in eternal judgment. Only when a man understands he will never cease to exist can he understand the joy of God’s love and the reality of His wrath. Everyone is created in the image of God, regardless of skin color, language, wealth or poverty, fame or infamy. All men bear the mark of the Divine.

Jesus came to bring the grace of eternal life, and what He gave is overwhelming, abundant, immeasurable, and eternal. Finding purpose in Christ alone means seeking the abundance of God’s promise of eternal life. Death is not the end but the beginning of life. This promise was made true through the blood of Jesus Christ. There is no life outside of Christ. All spiritual blessings are in Christ because He is the abundant one (Ephesians 1:3). He is the only abundant life. Eternal life is given to those whom God has created for His glory and to obey His will. Jesus is the good shepherd who provides all the needs of the flock. As a shepherd, Jesus cares for the flock of God whom the Father will bless abundantly. You are created in the image of God. Let the good shepherd lead you to the Father.
