Friday Morning Reflections – It Is All About Me

DailyDevotion_1Friday Morning Reflections – Wisdom Literature

The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no favor in his eyes. (Proverbs 21:10)

It Is All About Me

There is a philosophy of life that says, “Live life with all its gusto and when death comes slide into the grave clutching all the fun you can have.” Disciples of this fun filled frolic philosophy of living spend as many hours possible in the grand fulfillment of pleasure. Let’s not kid ourselves. Sin is fun. Otherwise what is the great attraction? For many a job is nothing more than a momentary pause to gain support for what happens after hours, weekends and holidays. Others have no desire to work spending their days pursuing a drug fix, another bottle to drown their sorrows and sexual pleasures to cover their miserable existence. Some are rebels living on the edge of society doing whatever they desire with no consideration of others. Crime is based on the need of a wicked heart taking from others for self-gratification. There is no concern for the life of the neighbor, store clerk and often family member. Life is one big party so let’s have all the fun we can.

The sad reality of this life is that most people follow this doctrine. There are those who take it to a higher level than others but the majority of people in the world live for the moment and live for the pleasure. Why is pornography so prevalent? Why are drugs the scourge of society? The news is filled with the murder of the innocent slaughtered in move houses and churches. Evil is no worse today than fifty years ago or two hundred years ago. It’s been around for a long time and man has embraced every tentacle of it. Evil is a desired need that fills the moment with the greatest pleasure.

Mankind has remained in a drunken state of evil since the expulsion from the garden. And to what end? Here is the sad and prominent reality: none! Every age in the history of man has proven the lust of the flesh, pride of life and lust of the eye is nothing more than empty promises lost in the miserable pursuit of pleasure that only brings unhappiness, pain and suffering. The soul of the wicked desires evil and cares for no one but himself. Sad. Tragic. Pointless.

And now you know why Jesus came.
